Author Guidelines

The AgEcon Frontiers (TAEF) invites scholars, researchers, practitioners, and thought leaders to submit book and research report proposals that align with our mission to advance transformative, policy-relevant, and interdisciplinary knowledge in agriculture, food systems, rural development, and environmental sustainability particularly across the Global South.

We are committed to publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed work that not only informs current development practice but also anticipates future challenges and opportunities. Our editorial vision bridges research, policy, and innovation, connecting empirical evidence with actionable insights for building resilient and inclusive food and rural economies.

Scope of Submissions

We welcome original, conceptually grounded, and empirically rigorous contributions in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Climate-smart agriculture and resilience

  • Food security, nutrition, and sustainability

  • Gender, youth, and social inclusion in rural economies

  • Rural finance, land tenure, and resource governance

  • Water–food–energy nexus in agrarian systems

  • Agri-tech, digital inclusion, and smart farming

  • Political economy of agricultural policy

  • Migration, labor, and the future of rural livelihoods

  • Agricultural biodiversity and ecosystem services

  • Rural health and medical issues
  • Frontier themes: AI and data systems, bio-economy transitions, green finance, and climate-smart digital technologies

Those submissions considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected. Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the scope and outline of the book are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the book. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another press for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Copyright for all published submissions is assigned to The AgEcon Frontiers (TAEF).

TAEF publishes under two access models Open Access and Closed Access depending on the publication type and funding arrangement:

  • Open Access Publications:
    Works published under this model are released with an open license, allowing users to read, share, and reproduce the content in any medium, provided proper attribution is given to the author(s) and The AgEcon Frontiers (TAEF), in accordance with the designated Creative Commons license (e.g., CC BY 4.0).

  • Closed Access Publications:
    For publications not designated as Open Access, all rights are reserved. No part of the work may be reproduced, distributed, or transmitted in any form or by any means without prior written permission from The AgEcon Frontiers (TAEF) or the respective author(s).

By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to assign copyright to The AgEcon Frontiers (TAEF) upon acceptance, while retaining the right to use their work for educational, non-commercial, and institutional purposes with proper acknowledgment.
